That’s right I think it is safe to say there are no Urban gardens in the capital city of the country of Qatar. How do I know this? Well I was there very recently, for one thing, and for another, we are working on a long-term integrated indoor agriculture project, and I think we are probably more likely than most to be aware of urban gardens.

So what is the big deal. They have a lot of money there (2nd richest country in the world behind Luxemborg) so they can buy all the food they need, right? Well, maybe, but here is another fact about Qatar – they import 99% of their food. So if there was a stoppage in ship or air traffic they would have no food in less than four (4) days. No food! None, nada, gone!

So how will rich folks act if they have no food? Probably the same way as poor folks. They would riot, get violent, get crazy. Rich, poor, or anything in between, if you and your family do not have food, you are going to do whatever you can to try to get it.

So what is the message here. Food Security. The second richest country in the world has no food security. We need to teach people to feed themselves.
